Are the meals good for my baby?
Absolutely! Thistle’s meals are always nutritionally-designed, with your baby’s health as our top priority. We offer a variety of ingredients in every color of the rainbow to ensure that your baby is getting all the nutrients they need to grow strong physically & mentally.
Why do you use flash frozen ingredients?
Your baby’s health is our top concern, so we flash freeze all ingredients to retain the most nutrients possible. Studies have shown that the nutritional value of frozen produce is equal to, and possibly better than, fresh produce. Read more here.
How much should my baby eat each day?

The answer is as much as (s)he wants! Your baby knows how much to eat and it can vary significantly day to day or meal to meal. That said here are some general guidelines - just remember you know your baby best and if you have specific questions on your baby’s eating, please reach out to your pediatrician.

Birth to 4 months: Your baby’s digestive tract is still developing, so solid or pureed foods are off-limits for now

4 to 6 months: Begin with 1 teaspoon of pureed food and gradually increase to 1 tablespoon mixed with breast milk or formula per meal

6 to 8 months: Increase from 1 tablespoon with supplemental liquid to 2-3 tablespoons of just puree per meal

8 months +: Begin exploring more solid foods such as yogurt, oats, protein, soft cooked veggies, etc. and add these to 4+ tablespoons of puree

Are herbs, spices & superfoods safe for my baby?
Herbs, spices and superfoods can be traced back to the start of civilization and have been added to baby food in different countries & cultures for many generations. When introducing a new herb, spice or superfood to your child’s diet, start with a minimal amount and gradually increase if well tolerated. ‘Good eaters’ aren’t born - they’re made. And with by introducing herbs, spices & superfoods you’re developing not only your baby’s palate, but healthy eating practices they’ll carry with them for life.

How To Make

Does this require any prep work?
Not at all! All of our produce is pre-washed, portioned, and chopped so all you need to do is open, steam and blend.
What equipment do I need?
Great question! We recommend you have the following: Pot with a lid Steaming basket or a steaming machine Blender, food processor, or immersion blender Containers to store your food. If you have any concerns or questions about the list above, please email - there are plenty of additional ways to cook our food we’d be happy to tell you about, such as sous vide, roasting or boiling (you can even microwave, although we don’t recommend it)
Should I make all three recipes at once, or one at a time?
Up to you! Some parents like to do them all in one go and feed their baby a different puree for every meal; others like to make recipes at different points in the week as needed. If you want to make them all at once, we recommend storing any food that will not be eaten within 3 days in BPA-free baby-food specific or ice cube freezer trays.
Do I need to defrost the produce packet before I cook it?
Nope! While we recommend you defrost your produce packet overnight in the fridge, you can also steam the ingredients directly from the freezer - just note that it’ll take a few minutes longer to cook.
Do I need to add anything to the meals?
For younger babies, add additional liquid (such as water, breast milk/formula, or stock) to reach a thinner consistency. For older babies, you can add additional ingredients (such as yogurt, cooked eggs, oats, or meat protein) for a thicker consistency and higher calorie count. Other than these personal customizations, absolutely nothing! Our meals are already packed full of nutrients and bursting with flavor.

How do I recycle or compost the box materials?

Please help us in our commitment to reduce waste by reusing and recycling your packaging materials:

THE BOX: Our boxes are 100% recyclable - just break down the box and place curbside with your recycling.

INSULATION: Our insulated liner is made from 100% recycled material (recycled burlap sacks from coffee houses) and simply throwing it in the trash adds no new material to the waste stream. If you’d like, the fiber can also be composted and the LDPE film surrounding it can be recycled at your local grocery store or plastic recycling facility.

ICE PACKS: Our ice packs are 100% biodegradable, non-toxic, and can be reused, donated, or recycled! Organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club, Goodwill, local food banks & soup kitchens, the SPCA, and youth sports clubs or dance companies all love ice pack donations. To dispose of the ice packs, simply cut the corner of the thawed pack and drain the contents into your compost or garbage and recycle the plastic bag.

INGREDIENT PACKETS: All of our ingredient bags are made of plastic that can be recycled. Simply rinse and place with your recycling.
